The History of Friends of Colchester Music...
At the close of the 2005 school year, MBS instrumental music teacher Andrew Rousseau and parent volunteer Lynn Appleget realized the need for a music booster organization. Their objective was to unite parents and community members in supporting the student musicians of Colchester. Their focus, was to bring together those who felt that supporting strong music education programs was as critical to the schools as supporting academic and sports curriculums. To this organizational end, a small group of parents and teachers had its first meeting in September of 2005 and organized Friends Of Colchester Music.
In the first year, FCM raised over three hundred dollars in direct donations. These funds were used to establish a scholarship fund for those student families needing assistance in obtaining musical instruments to participate in District student lesson and band programs. Music teachers also noted an ongoing need to purchase or replace costly larger musical instruments that would be used by students in all District schools.
These funds are earmarked for this purpose as well.
This year’s fund raising goals will benefit both the student instrument fund
as well as special projects or needs that music teachers feel would enrich
the student musician experience.
FCM welcomes all Colchester community members to lend their time and talent.
